A guided walk round parts of the Manchester Peace Trail to raise funds for the Manchester Group of Amnesty International, on Saturday 8th October. We will meet at 1.15 pm under the tiled map at Victoria Station, and start the walk at 1.30. We will finish at the Peterloo Memorial by 3.30pm.
The accessible walk will cover sites connected with the growth of Manchester as the world’s first industrial city and its importance as a centre for peace and radical political activity, focussing on Human Rights.
Activists encountered will include Robert Owen, George Holyoake, Mahatma Gandhi, Lydia Becker, Sylvia Pankhurst, Erinma Bell and those commemorated with plaques or quotations, including in the new Peace Garden.
The walk will be led by Steve Roman, a volunteer who regularly leads groups around the Manchester Peace Trail.
While we want to raise funds to support Manchester Amnesty’s campaigning work, we don’t want to deter anyone from joining us because of the cost. Therefore, we have priced tickets at £12 or £7 and hope that people will be as generous as they can be. Simply choose the price you wish to pay.
