Event information

Queer The Mic (Instagram @queerthemic) is a glittery spoken word and
poetry stage for Brighton. An evening of joy, humour and resistance
from entirely queer and trans performers. Expect 8 handpicked open mic
performers, a brilliant feature chosen from the last event and a
starry headline act.

Our headliner will be Kid Anansi

Kid Anansi is the poetic equivalent of finding out that the drinks
machine in your local McDonalds has quietly replaced its Pepsi button
with spiced rum. He is confusing, frightening, delicious with ginger
ale and lemon, and unhealthy in large doses. His unique brand of
poetry will either have you laughing, crying, biting your knuckles in
second-hand embarrassment, or all three, mixing history and melancholy
with slapstick humour and inimitable energy. A regular face on the
BAFTA Award winning first season of Life & Rhymes, and a host of
multiple poetry nights around London.

"He's that creative hurricane!" Benjamin Zephaniah.

Our feature is Kofi Achina:
Kofi is a London based spoken word artist and self-proclaimed
storyteller. He'll speak on anything, from sunsets to fascism.
Performed from Brighton seafront to Islington. Managed to worm his way
into a Hammer and Tongue slam final and got a piece published when he
was 9.
