A Romantic and a rarity.
In parallel with his extended career at the Royal Academy of Music, from which he recently retired, Philip White has composed for choral societies and brass bands throughout the UK, and he has enjoyed a long association with the Leith Hill Festival. WPO are proud to present his Cello Concerto in its London premiere. Anton Bruckner’s fourth symphony has acquired the nickname “Romantic”, which may or may not be Bruckner’s own. Either way it embodies a world of German romanticism, dark forests, sunlit mountain vistas, hunting horns in the scherzo, and an ardent slow movement. The concert starts with Borodin’s overture “Prince Igor”.
