Midsummer Opera's Czech Season concludes with Janacek's tightly powerful account of tangled relationships, seething emotions and violent deeds in a Moravian village, where shocking events finally give way to redemption. Performed in an English translation of the 1908 Brno version, with Helen Bailey in the title role, John Upperton as Laca, Mike Wells as Steva and Zoë South as Kostelnica, the opera is presented by Midsummer Opera with its own Symphony Orchestra and Chorus conducted by David Roblou.
