Brickwork Lizards, Owl Light Trio & Larkspur

A fundraiser for Oxfam's Türkiye & Syria earthquake appeal

Event information

The three bands are putting on a night together in aid of the Turkiye - Syria earthquake appeal.

Brickwork Lizards have combined their love and knowledge of Arabic music with a passion for pre-war jazz and countless other styles. “The band sound like nothing else around. They have the charm and style of the 30s and 40s with the haunting seductiveness of Middle Eastern music brought bang up to date. The result is a ridiculously seamless and impressive sound that must be heard.” (BBC Radio Oxford). This eclectic 9-piece includes Tarik Beshir (vocals & oud), Tom O'Hawk (vocals/rap), Lou Lyne (cello), Jules Smith (violin), Steve Preston (keys & trumpet), Spencer William (guitar), Malachy O'Neill (double bass), Eric Samothrakis (djembe), Andrew Mack (drums/cajon)

Owl Light Trio are Jim Penny on concertina, Jane Griffiths on fiddle and viola and Colin Fletcher on guitar. All three musicians have deep roots in traditional music, share a passion for tunes from Ireland, the UK and Brittany, and draw upon their combined influences to create complex, compelling and heartfelt arrangements. Between them they have performed and recorded with Maddy Prior, Nancy Kerr, Tim van Eyken, Red Dog Green Dog and Duotone. Owl Light Trio has performed at Gower, Oxford, Sidmouth, Shrewsbury, Tandem and Klangrausch folk festivals. Their debut album ‘Owl Light’ was described by fRoots as "A fine CD of beautifully-crafted music that is both memorable and clever". www.owllighttrio.com

Larkspur are Giles Lewin on violin and Melissa Holding on accordion. They play their own arrangements of music from various beloved folk traditions from the British Isles to Sweden to Bulgaria that include jigs, reels, waltzes and ratchinitsa. We're all waiting excitedly for them to record their first album, in the meantime you just have to come along and hear them live. A magical experience not to be missed. http://gileslewin.com. http://www.melissaholding.co.uk

There will be food available from Proof Pizza

Tickets are £10 in advance, £14 on the door. All proceeds go to Oxfam's work with communities and partners in Türkiye and Syria.
