2022 was a busy year for the 22 year old Tom Webber.
He was, until only April, working full time in Starbucks in Didcot and spending his evenings writing songs before it just became too difficult to expect them to give him time off for the onslaught of Summer Festivals and gigs coming his way. Tom’s unique voice, especially on the timeless 'Martha' soon caught the attention of BBC Introducing Oxford who have been solid supporters of Tom this year.
His tour supporting Nick Lowe throughout April and May of 2022 was a great opportunity for Tom to hone more of his craft and he could not have had a better mentor. These were swiftly followed up with support slots for Richard Hawley, Deacon Blue, Suzanne Vega and Mike Scott and then a slew of Summer Festivals including Isle of Wight, Glastonbury (who kindly bestowed Best Demo of the Year to him), Henley, Cornbury, Womad, Truck Festival and The Big Feastival.
The Autumn saw him supporting Frazey Ford, and back with Nick for 3 sell out shows at Nell’s in London. Then in November he headlined his first sold out show at the Kenton Theatre, Henley On Thames playing with a band for the first time, continuing to grow and evolve his live show.
His reviews from live shows and his releases have come with great praise and below are some of the best quotes from across the year:
“This chap can single handedly save rock’n’roll – I believe in Tom Webber and so should you” – Club Velocity – Reading
“This boy has genuine talent - there’s a real purity to what he does” – Gary Crowley, BBC Radio London
“He’s great….” John Giddings, Isle of Wight Festival
“A Class Act” - Dave Gilyeat BBC Introducing Oxford
"A bit like a modern day Chris Issak” - Nick Lowe fan
"A timeless star for the future” - Nightshift Magazine
“Imagine a soundscape starting in the Texas flatlands, driving through Arkansas and Shreveport before rolling into Tennessee with Telecaster hooks and a clear tenor voice that can echo Sam Cooke - that’s what Tom Webber sounds like - echoes of the past, wrapped up and made new"- Jonh Ingham
“Tom is, in the best sense, a little retro, without being in the slightest bit nostalgic. He’s well soaked in the past, but he makes it new” - The Arts Desk
“Tom Webber - Loved it! Great vocals and guitar playing - new single “I’m Yours terrific! Come back to Brighton soon!” - Scene Sussex
“Friends… up there with ‘Martha" as one of his best and most catchy tunes to date - I’ve said it before but this lad has that certain magical something” - Get Ready to Rock
“Even if we had not heard of Tom Webber, we certainly sat up and paid attention to the burgeoning class of this enthusiastic student of music -
the warmth of Webber’s melodious voice and his chords were a perfect starter” - Stroud Times
2023 will see more of Tom Webber out on the road and new music - with a brand new publishing deal under his belt too to round off 2022, it promises to be another busy year. You can catch him at The Sound Lounge in Sutton supporting Jess Thristan on January 18th and he also headlines his own gig in Reading’s Rising Sun as part of the Independent Venue Week of gigs on February 4th and you will be able to catch him at various London gigs over the next few months.
He is also involved in a forthcoming project entitled “The Unexpected Return of Mr Meek” - see trailer here: https://www.gingerandpickles.productions/joemeek
