In September 2009 Sofya Gulyak was awarded the 1st prize and the Princess Mary Gold Medal at the Sixteenth Leeds International Piano Competition – the first woman in the history of the competition to achieve this distinction. Since then she has appeared all over the world to great acclaim. She is presently a professor of piano at the Royal College of Music in London.
She will play:
Clara Schumann – Variations on a theme by Robert Schumann Op.20
Schumann – Allegro Op.8
Chopin – Variations brilliante Op.12
Brahms – 4 Klavierstücke Op.119
Franck – Prelude Chorale and Fugue
Chopin – 2 Valses brillante Op.34 Nos. 2 & 3
Ravel – La Valse
Our piano - a fine 2015 Steinway Model B Grand - was chosen for us by Steinway's Director of Concert & Artist Services. It is maintained by Steinways, who tune it immediately before each recital.
After the concert we offer a splendid finger buffet tea of freshly-made sandwiches, savouries, homemade cakes and chocolate biscuits, accompanied by a choice of wine, tea, coffee or juice. The artist attends the tea and you can meet them. Tea tickets are sold on the door at £10 (standard), £5 (students with ID and schoolchildren). We can cater for up to 70.
