Ntshuks Bonga's Qwati

Event information

Led by saxophonist Ntshuks Bonga, Qwati returns to the club after a
sell-out debut in January. Joined by the great South African trumpeter
Claude Deppa, pianist Alexander Hawkins, and the rhythm section of
Oren Marshall and Mark Sanders, the group imparts its own spin on
joyous mbaqanga standards and township melodies, the turbulence of the
Brotherhood of Breath and Blue Notes, and the Ellington-inspired
lyricism of Abdullah Ibrahim. Trombonist Gail Brand, labelled by Time
Out – ‘one of the most passionate and dynamic musicians alive – joins
