Event information

The Camden Town RnR Book Club is very pleased to welcome author Laurence Hedges along to chat about his book  Siouxsie and the Banshees - The Early Years. An intriguing time for the immensely influential punk and proto Goth band who have just recently started gracing stages again after a hiatus of ten long years. Those early days of the Banshees span Pistols punk outrage, the experimental early 100 Club happening with Sid Vicious on drums, and, after a few false starts, the conception of the coolest punk band on the planet, confounding and confusing critics and A and R departments alike with startling, ice cold anti Rock music that helped to invent Post Punk and Goth along the way.

Through the chaos of the 'Bye Bye Blackheads' period into an imperial phase of psychedelic new wave pop majesty, with Budgie on drums and John McGeough on guitar, it most certainly is a fascinating tale.

"Siouxsie and the Banshees - The Early Years explores the adventures, trials and tribulations of a band defying categorization. Their uncompromising brilliance is exemplified by three unique albums which are chronicled in the pages of this authoritative survey" Intervuew with Tony Bugbear, Q and A, book shop, Siouxsie roots, shoots, fruits and cahoots  DJ set and special guest live element.

We are pleased to announce excellent Banshees tribute Painted Bird will be performing tonight after the Q and A. As they rightly say, “a tribute to the music of Siouxsie and the Banshees” It’s not about looky-likeys. “We don’t play dress-up, we just kick ass on the music.”…an hour plus of prime Siouxsie. Can’t wait!
