Both bands are inspired by the joy in music which makes people want to dance, with Club Débris' focus on tunes from Quebec and Cri du Canard's French and Breton dance repertoire. Joining forces to bring you everything from sultry Breton schottisches to full-whack major key reels, this is an evening not to be missed... welcome to Club du Canard! Or is it Cri du Débris...
The bands:
Club Débris is a Quebec-inspired folk band based in London, playing high-energy French-Canadian trad music in brazenly major keys. For those unfamiliar, Québécois folk music is the result of many centuries of mixed influences between French, English, Scottish and Irish dance music, and is accompanied by driving, galloping foot percussion rhythms. The band is formed of Will Allen (accordion/fiddle), Maisie Greenwood (fiddle), Duncan Menzies (fiddle/banjo), Will Chamberlain (piano) and Jessie Collins (percussive dance): together, they play no-nonsense tunes with a pro-nonsense attitude.
Cri du Canard (Call of the Duck) is a newly formed trio of Grace Smith, Sam Partridge, and Dave Gray, who intertwine fiddle, flute and melodeon through an exploration of the traditional folk-dance repertoire of France. With a relaxed and natural style, Cri du Canard invite you to dance, or simply sit back, enjoy, and be welcomed into their musical world.
