The Line up

Jack McLuckie
"With a background in classical and folk music, multi-instrumentalist and composer Jack McLuckie spent lockdown trying to write happy songs. He failed. Previously he has played in Dubai, written music for a history podcast and formed the Veritable Ceilidh Club. His 7 piece indie-folk band, These Wooden Bones, released their first EP in 2019. His solo songs are mainly influenced by Scottish folk music."

Vulva Voce
Vulva Voce is an all-female genre-defying string quartet that brings exciting, dynamic performances of music composed by women and underrepresented voices to spaces and venues beyond the concert hall. Our mission is to break away from long held conventions of classical music and the string quartet, presenting audiences with radical and refreshing musical experiences. All classically trained, but with interests in folk, jazz, improvisation, contemporary classical, and experimental music making, our performances are a unique delve into female composers from across centuries.

Established in 2021 at the Royal Northern College of Music, Vulva Voce are the winners of Nonclassical’s Battle of the Bands 2023, the RNCM StART Creative Innovator Award 2022 and the Elias Chamber Music Prize. We have recently performed in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Connect Chamber Music Festival, and were the quartet-in-residence at the South Downs Summer Music Festival 2022. We regularly play in nightlife and performance venues across Manchester, London, and Edinburgh, but look forward to expanding our audience this summer, with festival appearances across the UK. For International Women’s Day this year, we will be doing a range of pop-up performances in public spaces across Manchester to celebrate women composers from past to present.

Education and community work is a key part of our mission. We believe that exposure to a diverse range of composers and music is crucial to changing the narrative about classical music to be more inclusive. We have worked with the Benedetti Foundation, the Galaxy House Unit at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, and the Untold Orchestra to create memorable and uplifting experiences through music.

Amity Miller
Amity is a 16 year old multi-competition-winning singer, songwriter and musician, who is proudly autistic and trans. Despite having been on the scene less than a year, Amity was recently reviewed in The Guardian as having “miraculous vocals” and “dense, surreal lyricism” and has even been contacted by TV producers hungry to get Amity on their shows. Amity has been compared to Adele, Regina Spektor, Judy Garland and even Ian Dury in the national press and, despite their young age, is increasingly being invited to perform as a featured artist at London’s music venues.
Amity is based in London in the UK and when they are not writing new original songs, or performing at gigs, they are spending time in the recording studios to meet the demand for downloadable music that follows them at every performance, and also to collaborate with other artists. This spring, Amity’s song Boundaries (Stand Tall), co-written with New York hip hop artist MC Reef, will be streaming on all platforms as part of the release of MC Reef’s new album
