More than 40 years after they formed, Rutland based band The Amber Squad will return to Stamford to play the Voodoo Lounge, Mama Liz’s for the very first time on Friday, December 1st 2023.
In the late 70’s and early 80’s The Amber Squad was very popular locally and beyond, gigging regularly up and down the country and receiving Radio One air play on the John Peel Show and Round Table with Kid Jensen. After several independent label record releases, they eventually called it a day in 1985, however after a long “sabbatical” they came together again in 2015 and have since played gigs and various charity fundraisers as well as rekindling interest from the Mod Revival community resulting in appearances at some iconic venues, including the legendary Hope & Anchor in Islington.
The December show will include all their single releases, including “(I Can’t) Put My Finger On You”; “Can We Go Dancing?”; and the recent vinyl single “After All These Years” b/w “Keep My Company”. The band will also play many other tracks from their back catalogue of original tunes, including deep cuts from various compilation albums as well as a few classic standards.
The current line-up includes original band members Richard (Dick) Beechey (vocals), Paul (Magic) Fairey (guitar), and Graham (Tuzzy) Tyers (drums), augmented by well-known local bassist Gary Tyler who recently replaced Steve (Dubber) Rawlings when he moved away from the Rutland and Stamford area. The latest release, “After All These Years”, is available from Detour Records online at www.detourrecords.co.uk, and a limited number of signed copies will also be on sale at The Voodoo Lounge on the night.
