Living locally but know across the globe for his world-class award winning musical prowess as a composer, producer, orchestrator and performer, John Altman has won BAFTA's and EMMY's., the Gold Badge of Excellence for services to British music awarded by his peers in The British Academy of Songwriters & Composers (now known as The Ivor's), a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Monaco Film Festival, and an honorary Doctorate of Music from the University of Sussex where he was the first ever Creative Arts Fellow in the Department of Humanities.

His film & TV credits are too numerous to mention here. John's performed with Clapton, Zoot Money, Hendrix, Jimmy Page and the late Amy Winehouse, was Van Morrison's MD for years and Hot Chocolate's MD and sax player. And he's responsible for classics like Alison Moyet's 'That Old Devil Called Love', George Michael's 'Kissing A Fool' and Bjork's 'It's Oh So Quiet',

If not working with some of today's the greats, John is a featured sax player in leading jazz clubs and festivals round the world and regularly records jazz albums with his own jazz quartet and his own highly acclaimed and hugely influential Big Band !

This afternoon, John tells stories from his life behind the scenes over a golden career spanning seemingly forever, so join us, be educated, shocked and entertained by this quiet, nay, "Hidden" Man of Jazz as we present the first public event in our own storytelling room....the NJA's Jazz Hub Loughton.
