Event information

Described in The Living Tradition as ‘captivating, bold and striking’, Cohen Braithwaite-Kilcoyne is at the forefront of his generation of English folk musicians as both a powerful and commanding singer and a masterful player of the Anglo concertina and melodeon. Cohen burst onto the folk scene more than a decade ago while still in his teens with the much-loved trio Granny’s Attic and since those early beginnings, Cohen has performed at countless festivals and concert venues across the UK and overseas, both as a soloist and with Granny’s Attic. Alongside this Cohen has also collaborated with artists such as Reg Meuross, Angeline Morrison, Stick in the Wheel, Jim Moray and The Demon Barbers.
Cohen has received two BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominations, one in the Young Folk Awards category with Granny’s Attic in 2014 and one in Horizon Award category as a soloist in 2018. Cohen made his debut solo album, Outway Songster in 2017 with the follow up Rakes & Misfits coming in 2021. Both albums received extensive radio play (including BBC radios 2, 3, 4 and 6, along with numerous local radio stations) and positive press, with fRoots describing Outway Songster as ‘the best debut album by a young British performer […] for many a day’ and Living Tradition describing Rakes & Misfits as ‘triumphant’. Cohen is currently looking ahead to beginning work on his 3rd solo album due for release in 2024, which will focus on the connection between English folk music and the musical traditions of the Caribbean and Black America.
