Event information

Darkness treads light as a feather. The voice of despair gently wafts through the air. Delicate pain wrapped in radiant beauty pierces the heart slowly yet without hesitation. The sinister yet beguiling images that DARKHER aka Jayn Maiven paints with her ethereal vocals, layered guitars, and atmospheric strings, reflects Her mostly eerie , sonic storytelling.

DARKHER was conceived as the sole brainchild and solo-project of Northern English singer , guitarist and composer Jayn Maiven in 2012. The dark and melancholic yet also massively heavy sound , takes inspiration from the dramatic landscapes around Hebden Bridge, as it reflects the emotional landscapes within, this features in the 2015 EP "The Kingdom Field" , The first album 'Realms' and the most recent follow up album 'The Buried Storm' all via Prophecy Productions (Germany).

"This is a cautious album, it’s slow and beautifully methodical. It doesn’t rush into anything and lures you into its gloomy beauty, and then drowns you in the dark waters of sorrow. it’s a kaleidoscope of immersion like being smacked with a tidal wave of emotion. In short, the music here is captivating." New Noise Magazine

Special Guest Support: GRIFT
Grift is the name of the Swedish artist and multi-instrumentalist Erik Gärdefors and is known for its seamless transitions between forest folk and nature ambient compositions. Grift has become a sought-after live artist, touring far and wide as an acoustic solo-performance.

Second Guest Support: Daniel Land

Daniel Land will not only be the featured guitarist in this DARKHER performance, layering his most beautiful atmospheric landscapes, as he joins for this rare full band performance, He will also be playing a solo set of music from his latest album and previous releases.

Daniel Land’s first album, "Love Songs For The Chemical Generation", was called "One of the finest records of its time" by Drowned In Sound, and "Like Slowdive reimagined by Phil Spector" by the NME. The album is now widely considered to be a classic of the shoegaze genre, although Daniel remains, in the words of The Skinny, a "dream-pop cult hero", known only to the shoegaze cognoscenti. His new album, "Out of Season" — a series of reflections on memory, identity, and history in post-Brexit Britain — has received the best reviews of his career; Fame Magazine called Daniel an "autueur in the music landscape" and the album "a magnum opus", whereas BBC Radio 6 Music deemed the record "Decadent, and absolutely gorgeous". Lauded by Guy Garvey, Tom Robinson, Mark Radcliffe, and many others, Daniel Land makes the kind of music that — in the words of BBC Radio 1's Rob Da Bank — "The late John Peel would have loved".
