The incredible story of cyclist Greg LeMond, who returned from the brink of death with a bullet hole in his stomach to haunt the Tour de France. A thrilling epic about one of the greatest and most inspiring comebacks in sporting history.
Bafta-nominated filmmaker Alex Holmes’ latest documentary feature is the heart-stopping, edge-of-your-seat story of the greatest cycle race in history, the 1989 Tour De France. Greg LeMond is the only male US cyclist to win the Tour De France and is considered by many to be the greatest American cyclist and one of the all-time greats of recent history. Holmes recounts how LeMond overcame trauma and near-death to win the 1989 race and stage one of the most inspiring comebacks in sporting history.
Our guest this month is Lawrence Way, forty five years a cyclist and fan. He’s followed Greg LeMond’s story from the start and has been involved in the development and running of the Gorillas cycling group. After the film, Lawrence will give his response to the film and encourage discussion.
Lawrence emphasis that there is a lot for the non-cyclist in the film: betrayal, ADHD, what it takes to whistle blow, the role of tech and money in cycling, and what it takes to come back from catastrophic adversity.
