Join writer and journalist Jade Angeles Fitton in conversation with Emily Colwill (from Spencer Thorn) to hear how after a destructive relationship unravelled, in a remote barn in Devon, she chose solitude, or perhaps more accurately solitude chose her. And slowly, with help from Devon’s salted cliffs and damp forested footpaths, Jade came back to life and discovered the power of being alone.
In ‘Hermit,’ through conversations with other hermits across the world, Fitton sheds light on an extraordinary and misunderstood way of living which has survived into the 21st century – from monks, to hikikomori, and the often-ignored female hermit. Lyrically written, this is an inspirational story of recovery, of finding home and a celebration of solitude in the natural world.
Hermit was published in May 2023 to critical acclaim:
‘Rapturous.’ Times Literary Supplement
‘Piercingly Lyrical.’ Sunday Times
(Stay on for Ezmay Grace singing the songs of Joni Mitchell 9.30pm. Tickets £7)
