Event information

Join us for an event like no other - we've taken some of the best speculative fiction writers working today, put them in a room together, and challenged them to 'gameify' worldbuilding... live!

Speculative fiction encompasses the fantasy, science fiction, historical, and horror genres, all of which rely on a finely detailed sense of place. Come along to see Guy Morpuss, Tim Tilley, and Bridget Collins demonstrate their world-building craft, based on a series of questions, the roll of a dice, or prompt cards.

BRIDGET COLLINS trained as an actor at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art after reading English at King's College, Cambridge. She is the author of seven acclaimed books for young adults and has had two plays produced, one at the Edinburgh Fringe. She is the No. 1 bestselling author of THE BINDING and THE BETRAYALS. THE SILENCE FACTORY is her third adult novel.

GUY MORPUSS writes speculative crime fiction: twisting one aspect of the real world, adding a dead body, and playing with the consequences. His first novel, Five Minds (Viper Books), is about five people sharing one body, one of whom is trying to murder the others. It was a Financial Times Book of the Year and a Kindle Number 1 Bestseller in Technothrillers and Post-Apocalyptic SF. His second novel, Black Lake Manor (Viper Books) is a locked room murder mystery set on Vancouver Island, with a killer who can unwind time – which makes it difficult for the detective trying (repeatedly) to solve the murder. It was a Financial Times SF Book of the Month and a Waterstones Best Crime Book of the Year.

He is currently finishing his third novel, due to be published by Viper Books in early 2025. It is a legal thriller with a speculative twist. He is also writing the first of a three-part young adult series set in the world of Five Minds.

TIM TILLEY is an author and illustrator of children’s books. His debut novel, Harklights, won the Joan Aiken Future Classics Prize and was Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month. Witchstorm, the follow-up, continued to explore eco-themes, friendship and family. He is currently working on his next book, but won’t tell you the title just yet.
