Editing masterclass with Cornerstones’ Kathryn Price
Presented by: Alton Arts Festival0 | ALTON: Alton Library |

A rare opportunity for some one-to-one work on your writing!
Kathryn Price has 20 years' experience in the publishing industry: first working for agents and then as managing editor and co-director of Cornerstones. She is co-author of On Editing, which has become a go-to guide for authors, educators and industry professionals; and she is course director of Edit Your Novel the Professional Way, an online course run by Cornerstones and the Professional Writing Academy.
We have a very limited number of spaces for a select workshop with Kathryn, for which you will submit a sample of your work (the first 5 pages) in advance. The three-hour workshop will include one-to-one time with each participant and tailored feedback on your work.
The workshop will focus on five key elements that an agent or editor will be looking for in those first five pages:
- Character
- Point of View and Voice
- Description
- Pace
- Tension and conflict
Participants’ work should be submitted to the Festival 4 weeks before the date of the course so Kathryn can complete her pre-work. As well as the exercises we go through on the day, Kathryn will mark up each author's work so that you have feedback to take away with you. The workshop will be very interactive with mini-exercises to complete individually and share with the group if you feel confident.
