Event information

SHRUB. is a celebration of all that is joyful in music, with a sound that has been described as jangly nightmare pop. It began as a duo of Ruth Webber (saxophone / vocals) and Bill Francis (guitar / vocals). This simple, exposed format put songwriting at the forefront of their musical output, their unique voices playing equal part in carrying melodies. The addition of David Haynes (drums / percussion / vocals) and Chris Mayall (synth / bass / vocals) expanded the sonic horizons of the band, allowing the songs to swell into rich textures and settle into deep grooves.

Organic, colourful melodies are underpinned by lyricism as poignant as it is playful; lush vocal harmonies dissolve into angular sax lines; infectious rhythms melt into to synthesized psychedelic sound baths. At the core of their music is the exuberant energy emitted by people who love playing what they’re playing.

“Deliciously off kilter sound with a stark lyrical message that is delivered by some really intriguing and interesting voices” - Christian Carlisle
