Inspired by voyages to the Outer Hebrides, tales of ancient Celtic Goddesses and great folk singers from Peggy Seeger to Joni Mitchell, Georgie Buchanan is a unique singer and harpist on the contemporary folk scene. She’s joined here by Alana Middleton, folk fiddle-player and singer – they combine wonderfully creating delicious harmonies with voices and instruments.
"This is beautiful, subtle and sophisticated folk music. Ethereal yet rooted. I can’t wait to hear more from Georgie Buchanan.” Miranda Sykes (Show of Hands)
"Exquisite" Hannah Peel, BBC Radio 3
"Gorgeous" Guy Garvey, BBC 6Music
Hailing from the North Shore Mountains of Canada and the Chiltern Hills, Georgie has always felt most at home creating music in the rich landscapes of the natural world. Since immersing herself in the folk world she’s performed with Show of Hands on the main stage of Sidmouth Folk Festival, been selected for Sound and Music’s highly competitive New Voices Programme and had one of her original songs ‘Love is a Rocking Wave’ played on The Nest Collective’s ‘Singing with Nightingales, Homecoming Broadcast’ hosted by Sam Lee. Georgie was most recently selected to take part in the English Folk Expo’s Artist Mentoring Programme and performed at Focus Wales 2022 and Cambridge Folk Festival 2022 and 2023. She has supported renowned folk acts Ye Vagabonds, Katherine Priddy and John Francis Flynn.
Georgie released her debut album ‘Wise as a Fool’ in Spring 2023 and toured around the UK with sell out shows in Leeds, London, Sheffield and Bristol. Songs from the album were played on Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour BBC6Music, Hannah Peel’s Night Tracks BBC Radio 3 and Mark Radcliffe’s Folk Show BBC Radio 3.

Alana Middleton is a folk fiddle-player, singer and community music facilitator based in Leeds. She performs regularly in the vibrant local folk scene as well as further afield, playing with ceilidh bands and collaborating with fellow musicians and multi-disciplinary artists. From wild, stomping and uplifting fiddle playing, to intimate and expressive singing, her musicianship is embodied and heartfelt. Her rural upbringing in Herefordshire, surrounded by woods and hills, instilled a sense of deep connection with the natural world, and she explores this through traditional song and her own songwriting. She is inspired to hold and create spaces where we can celebrate our interconnectedness with each other and the land we live upon through story and song, in both workshop and performance settings.
Georgie and Alana will be performing music from Georgie's debut album ‘Wise as a Fool’ as well as some new compositions. As a duo, they craft haunting musical landscapes of a cappella harmonies and shimmering instrumentals that speak of a heartfelt connection with the natural world.
