We’re delighted to welcome three incredible poets to the shop for our latest poetry evening on the Saturday night of our Real Magic Weekend this really is a line-up to get excited about…

Fresh from the launch of her first full collection, Open Mouths, Sharan Hunjan is part of the 4 BROWN GIRLS WHO WRITE collective, and her debut, full of poignant domestic details, pin-point observation and quietly smart wordplay, is published by the ever-reliable Rough Trade Books.

Declan Ryan was one of the Faber New Poets in 2014 and has been quietly building up a head of steam since then, culminating in his brilliant debut, Crisis Actor, which came in June last year from Faber & Faber. His work is full of the wry humour and subtle intelligence that comes with life’s disappointments, farewells and broken hearts. This is a very human, elegant kind of poetry.

And lastly, we’ll have another Faber star in Camille Ralphs, whose book After you Were, I Am has been getting rave reviews all over the broadsheets and beyond. This is book of striking originality, fusing moments of historical import with a version of modernity that creates a brand new and utterly electric metaphysics.

The night will be hosted by our own local poet Will Burns and will feature readings from each guest as well as a chance to grab a drink and chat with them before and afterwards. Block and Butcher will be offering Mexican food as part of the Real Magic Weekend’s Sobremesa food event, so come down and get involved.
