“Warm, deep, singer-songwriters that have drank from the well of 20th century tradition” (Folk Radio UK).
Embark on a transatlantic journey with A Different Thread, the Americana band led by Alicia Best from Durham, North Carolina and Robert Jackson from the West Midlands of England.
Their paths first crossed while busking in Ireland in 2016. That chance meeting sparked a nearly decade-long adventure, touring the USA, UK, Europe and beyond, all the while writing, recording, and living on the road.
Their authentic performance caught the attention of Shrewsbury Folk Festival, where a win in 2017 earned them a coveted spot on the main stage. They have since landed features on both BBC and NPR, as well as support slots with notable artists like Jody Stevens (Big Star), Native Harrow, and the Milk Carton Kids.
With nods to 70s' folk revival, country, and Appalachian blues, their music, featuring mournful fiddle and harmonica, exudes a timeless quality. Their influences range from Cash and Carter to Welch and Rawlings, with hair-raising harmonies that tell heartfelt tales of love, loss, and life on the open road.
Now, anchored in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, they're returning to the UK for a three month tour, August through October.
As the duo traverse new horizons, immerse yourself in the warmth of their music on Apple and Spotify, join them on Patreon, and explore A Different Thread’s extraordinary tale at adifferentthread.com
