It is a an absolute honour and delight to announce this Michael Head & The Red Elastic Band, full band show at The Foxlowe Arts Centre on Friday 8th November.
There are few songwriters to ever surpass the gifts he’s brought, either on his own, with The Pale Fountains, Shack or The Strands, but Michael Head and his Red Elastic Band start to unwrap the fifth decade of his artistry with some of his finest work.
His 2022 album, Dear Scott, as cohesive and coherent as any album he’s made, gained a top 10 chart placing and ‘Album of the Year’ accolades from both Mojo and Record Collector magazine.
A dizzying constellation of carefully-crafted songs, pin-sharp playing and deft, life-bringing production from fellow Scouse singer/songwriter Bill Ryder-Jones.
As 2024 rolls into the summer, we are treated to another astounding collection with the release of ‘Loophole’. Once again with Ryder-Jones on production this collection maintains the same standard of excellence. ‘Loophole is a continuation of the creative process that yielded ‘Dear Scott’ serving as a companion piece.
RECORD COLLECTOR *****
A modern masterpiece...Dear Scott was our Album Of 2022, yet in its scope the follow-up is even better. Where does that leave Head's competition?
UNCUT 9/10
Low key joie de vivre...He’s let his imagination run free all over these songs, and the act of listening will almost certainly do the same to yours...Takes you beyond the physical realm”
CLASSIC POP ****
Head’s late career upswing continues apace
MOJO ****
Strong sequel to MOJO’s Best Album of 2022
A true songwriting genius who has somehow remained in the shadowy niche of cult status for close to 40 years, Michael Head may finally be coming out into the light. A good thing for him and a wonderful thing for us all.
The support for this show comes Joanne Head, Mick’s sister. Joanne Head is set to make her long-awaited debut as a solo artist, stepping into the spotlight after years of contributing her rich, soulful vocals to the works of others. As the sister of renowned musicians Michael and John Head, Joanne has deep roots in the Liverpool music scene, where she has been an integral part of various projects, including those led by her brothers.
Having spent years perfecting her craft behind the scenes, Joanne is now ready to share her own voice and stories with the world. Her debut solo gig marks a significant milestone in her musical journey, featuring a blend of folk, rock, and soul that highlights her talent as both a singer and songwriter. With a sound that is both timeless and deeply personal, Joanne Head’s solo performances promise to captivate and resonate with audiences, establishing her as a powerful artist in her own right.
