About Shirlene Obara:
Shirlene Obara from Nairobi, Kenya, started playing the violin at the age of eight. She won the Kenya Music Festivals violin category in 2017, 2018 and 2019. She also participated in the Kenya Young Musician competition in 2018 and 2019 winning the Junior Category for both years running. In 2019, she joined Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, where her violin teacher is Gabi Jones. She regularly participates in the school’s lunchtime concerts and is a member of the Chethams Symphony Orchestra, as well as a number of chamber ensembles. She has had the opportunity to participate in masterclasses at the school, most notably one led by Tasmin Little CBE.
