Event Information

The legendary reggae band - Misty In Roots, return for their first London show in over five years, and exclusive show for 2024, at Camden Town's historic Electric Ballroom (6th October 2024). With speical guests Ruts DC and Pama Int'l (DJ set).

Misty In Roots are one of the finest and most vital reggae acts the world has seen. A fact amply born out in BBC 6 music’s 2018 music documentary by Don Letts and by their debut album, which is regarded as one of the best live albums of all time - ‘Live At The Counter Eurovision 79’. Commonly known as John Peel’s favourite reggae band (who they recorded a staggering nine BBC Radio One sessions for), they produced truly uplifting and righteous roots reggae music with vitally important, socially conscious messages.

Originally formed in the mid-1970’s to back reggae star - Nicky Thomas, they went onto create ya their own, unique orthodox reggae sound. In the late 1970’s, at a time of great political and social unrest in the UK, and with racism on the raise, Misty In Roots became a major unifying force in the Rock Against Racism movement, playing alongside The Ruts, Elvis Costello, The Specials and Tom Robinson. This built a huge new, multi-cultural audience for them and reggae.

Some six decades on Misty In Roots have a huge global following, and are still regarded as one of the most powerful reggae bands there has been.

Formed in 1977, The Ruts led the way in forward thinking brew of punk and dub, as so phenomenally demonstrated on their classic hits - Staring At The Rudeboys, Jah War and their Top 10 hit single Babylon Is Burning. Their first incendiary release - In A Rut, was actually funded by Misty In Roots and released on their People Unite label! Both bands went onto play vital parts in the Rock Against Racism movement.

Following the untimely death of lead singer Malcolm Owen in 1980 the band morphed into Ruts DC. Five decades on, with original members John "Segs" Jennings (bass) and Dave Ruffy (drums) at the helm, they are still setting dance floors alight around the globe and continuing to release world class music, as their latest Counterculture album superbly proves.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see Misty In Roots and Ruts DC first show together in decades, plus a DJ set from UK reggae runners - Pama International, who will be exclusively premiering their brand new album at the show!
