Filling Station for Losers features ten songs by acclaimed East German protest singer Gerhard Gundermann that Dave has translated into English. The new versions, performed in a contemporary folk-rock style, introduce Gundermann to an English-speaking audience for the first time.
The album was produced by Dónal O’Connor at Redbox Studios Belfast. The cover is by Keith Connolly from Tonic Design. Dave will be launching it in the Oh Yeah Centre accompanied by Paul Webster (mandolin), Bronagh Broderick (vocals and fiddle), Nick Scott (bass and vocals) and Stephen Quinn (drums).
In February Dave launched the CD successfully in Germany, where it is distributed by the label BuschFunk. It is available on all online platforms.
Gerhard Gundermann, who died prematurely in 1998 at the age of 43, was a musician who also worked in a coal mine. His songs, dealing with themes such as the environment, migration, and the conflicts of post-industrial society, are just as relevant today as they were in his own lifetime.
