Indie supergroup Swansea Sound hail from Kent/Swansea, . Reuniting Hue Williams and Amelia Fletcher, the original singers of cult 1990s UK indie band The Pooh Sticks, Swansea Sound have become a popular fixture on the UK indie scene. They have released two acclaimed albums, are frequently played on the BBC and have recorded a live BBC6Music session. Described as ‘an indiepop miracle’ by All Music, SWANSEA SOUND combine a witty, sardonic, very contemporary lyrical attack with timeless guitar-pop songwriting. Latest single ‘Markin’ It Down’, which features Amelia as an unimpressed record shop worker and Hue as an ever-optimistic customer, was released in April to mark International Record Store Day. The live experience is unmissable, with Hue and Amelia playing off each other, sometimes duetting, sometimes harmonising, always entertaining, while the band (Rob Pursey – also Heavenly, Bob Collins – The Dentists, Ian Button - Death In Vegas) kick up an infectious melodic racket.
SASSYHIYA
Described as a mix of Television and The Sundays, Sassyhiya sit in the sweet spot between post-punk and indie pop. They know their way around a melody but still keep it wonky. Having already garnered a reputation for excellent live shows, the band got the ultra cool Brixton Windmill crowd dancing their socks off while supporting Fat White Family’s Brian Destiny and have shared a bill with the likes of Mr Ben and the Bens, Cable Ties, Fightmilk, Breakup Haircut, Lande Hekt, Dancer and Comic Sans.
As well as self-releasing two EPs, a live session for Resonance FM, an episode of cult Youtube music programme Cutscene TV, the band feature on compilations for both Loud Women and Related Records. Next on the agenda for Sassyhiya is their debut album (produced by Pozi's Toby Burroughs) which will be coming out later this year on Skepwax records.
“We adore this band - brilliant songwriting, outstanding musicianship, DIY ethos, and bags of humour.” Loud Women
“If the Television Personalities had been a 60s soul band, they would definitely have been South East London’s splendid Sassyhiya. Lovely people with peppy, snappy songs, expect to go home with at least three or four earworms from their short stack of poptastic future classics.” Louder than war
“This is genius lo-fi indie pop.” Beats to the Bar
“irresistible; a supercool slice of wonky post-punk”, “a must-listen for fans of The Raincoats, Shop Assistants, Delta 5 and Shopping “, “a modern, post-punk classic” Get in her ears
