Event information
Inspired by English and Appalachian folk blended with alternative pop music, Amy Hollinrake draws on women’s stories within folklore and mythology and fuses them with a contemporary sound placing her at the forefront of the new era of feminist neo-folk. Described as "absolutely haunting";, BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour and "Both timeless and utterly contemporary"; Songwriting Magazine. Her recent EP Sad Lady Songs Vol.1. reimagines
traditional folk songs and tales, combining them with dulcimers and synthesizers to create a head spinning mix of yesterday and today.
She has garnered attention from the likes of BBC 6 Music’s Marc Riley and Tom Robinson, BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour. She also gained prestigious awards from EFDSS, Help Musicians and the Bert Jansch Foundation for her work. She also recently appeared on projects for Disney (The Little Mermaid) 20th Century Fox (The Boogyman) and Don Broco.
Cementing her as an exciting artist deserving of any musos radar.
Hollinrake is also the founder of project Loathly Lady, a creative feminist cataloguing project exploring gendered narratives in traditional music.
"absolutely haunting"; Emma Barnett, BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour
‘Hollinrake’s voice captivates, a Sandy Denny for a new century’ TradFolk
"both timeless and utterly contemporary"; Songwriting Magazine
"a pastoral soundscape to immerse yourself in"; Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6 Music Introducing
Support from Ben McElroy
Ben is an ambient/folk musician originally from The Wirral but now residing in Nottingham. He combines acoustic instruments with computer processing to create folk inspired soundscapes.
Ben has been writing music since his teens, with just a basic grasp of guitar and even more basic recording equipment. Over the years he’s picked up more instruments and slightly better recording gear, and is most often found in his home studio working on new stuff- but can occasionally be spotted live- see gig listings to the right.
Since 2016 Ben has released 9 albums and numerous eps. They are all available via Bandcamp.
