Event information
Thundermoon are back with “We Can Do Better Than This”, their second EP, and first to be released on New Teeth Records. Thundermoon joined the New Teeth roster in early 2024 alongside the likes of Doom Scroller, Sarya, and The Micro Band, and have already released three singles on the label.
Following on from their first EP “We’re Still Here” (Sep 2023), Thundermoon continue familiar nostalgia and end-of-the-world themes, in their trademark connective and hopeful way, with the juxtaposing realities of sharing adventures with pals, and the ever unescapable feeling of doom within the modern day capitalist hellscape.
Thundermoon captivates listeners into a time-travelling, extraterrestrial exploration of this life, filled with DIY beats, retro synth sounds and heart-healing melodies. The recurring hook and EP title “We Can Do Better Than This” features in a couple of the tracks, driving home the overall themes of hope in the face of destruction and oppression. It's a reminder that there’s another way to do all of this, there’s a better way to build the world.
✨ Support from Lisa Fannen.
- Lisa shares words solo, and in performance with other musicians/soundmakers, including as part of the duo Claquer with Jer Reid. Her poetry collection 'Faultline' was released as a collaborative recording project. She is interested in (re)integrating text, sound and performance, and has been working on a larger scale ritual performance 'Return' which weaves together a long poem for four voices, a string quartet, pipes, drums and masked dancers.
🛸 Afterparty DJ sets from Katelate & Supper Club.
- Katelate is a queer DJ, promoter and producer of all things vibrant, evocative, unheard, and outspoken. A resident at Femmergy since 2022, and organiser of the Principle 8 club night, she can also be seen at Mightnight Bass, Nektar, Hypnotikk, and Headset.
- Peter “follow the William Onyeabor and you’ll find him” Simpson and Brian “this party needs more Kylie Minogue disco remixes” Pokora from Supper Club.
A party in Edinburgh to dance off your dinner. Nothing but bangers, all on vinyl of course.

Edinburgh-based synth-pop trio Thundermoon formed when longtime pals Lorna Kelly, K Messer, and Shaz Jamieson joined forces to create an 80’s synth sound with spacey harmonies and retro riffs. Their influences include LCD Soundsystem, CHVRCHES, Daft Punk, Underworld, 80’s synth, 90’s dance, and old-school punk.
Their debut EP received support from The Skinny, Plastic Magazine, BBC Rapal, Tom Robinson’s Fresh on the Net, Jim Gelatley, Amazing Radio, Music Mag, Mesmerized & Off The Record.
In 2024, they have released three singles and have an upcoming EP out on New Teeth Records, alongside their debut festival slots at Knockengorroch & Kelburn Garden Party. Their new releases have received support from BBC Radio Scotland, with features on The Roddy Hart Show and BBC Introducing in Scotland, Amazing Radio, BBC Rapal, The Skinny, Snack Mag, Wide Days, Resonate, and Alive & Amplified. They were featured as The Scotsman’s Artist of the Week ahead of the release of their upcoming EP “We Can Do Better Than This”.
