Mark Boden has been playing the guitar for over 35 years, and teaching it for over 30 years in schools, privately and holding masterclasses. Having enjoyed a career playing in rock bands in the North East and wider region for over fifteen years he felt that it was time for a change.
Flamenco interested him for some years so he started to study it in a Flamenco school in Seville, Spain. He now performs his interpretations of Flamenco pieces, and compose Flamenco music with modern elements in it fusing Latin American, Jazz, Indian, Classical, Cuban, Blues and Rock.
Mark performs in the North East and North Yorkshire region in his group, Mark Boden's Flamenco con Fusion. Previously he has worked with 3 Flamenco dance teachers in Newcastle, York and Whitby, accompanying their classes and playing for their shows. Regularly he performs at music festivals which have included Musicport World Music Festival 2010, 2012, 2016, Stockton Riverside Festival 2010, 2024, World Fest, Middlesbrough Music Live, Acoustic Gathering, Roots North, Culture Shock Fest, Ingelton Festival and Classical Café to name a few, he organises his own solo events. Recently, he supported Tyketto frontman Danny Vaughn and was a featured artist performing at Sonic Arts Week. He has performed several times on BBC Radio Tees and Zetland FM.
Currently, he is accompanying poet Dr Bob Beagrie’s project, Romanceros, which are poems about the English/Teesside contribution to the Spanish Civil War.
In his shows he performs either as a soloist or is accompanied by Phil Philo (guitar), James McCann (percussion/cajon) and Jamie Donnelly (bass). This show features Phil Philo.
Support comes from local act Forte, a four-piece folk group based around Ashbourne, Derbyshire, (vocals & song-writing: Arnie Rainbow; cajon: Ian McFarlane ; bass guitar: Julian Hackett; guitar: Phil Philo) playing a varied mixture of traditional & contemporary folk songs & original compositions. Their eclectic repertoire reflects their varied backgrounds: folk singing & songwriting, jazz drumming & brass band (tuba).
