The eponymous debut album from Sun Cutter (aka Kevin Pearce) was released in January 2022 on Bronzerat Records. The first single ‘Daylight Star’ found love on BBC 6 Music with Marc Riley, Mark Radcliffe, Tom Robinson, on Absolute Radio, and on US radio. The album went on to chart in the top 20 in Germany.
As well as the Sun Cutter project, Kevin has released a number of albums and EP’s under his own name, including the album "Matthew Hopkins & The Wormhole", a concept record about the Witchfinder General who lived in the same village in Essex that he does. His music has also been used on ITV and HBO tv shows.
Kevin hails from Colchester. Four years ago, Kevin suffered a heart attack (on a golf course). As well as having to redress some lifestyle habits, his rehabilitation involved writing and recording the Sun Cutter project. It is an album of beautiful driving, harmony-drenched indie-soul and folk-rock that looks to the light for reflection and is, at the same time, reminiscent of some purveyors of classic songwriting, such as Tim Buckley, John Lennon, Cat Stevens and Richard Thompson, albeit with a modern make over.
Kevin seems to not know the meaning of slowing down creatively. The second Sun Cutter album will be released later this year, again on Bronzerat Records. The music from this new album will be showcased at the Cranbrook show as well as songs from his back catalogue, and Kevin will be backed by a full band to add weight to the occasion. His music is spellbinding, deep and emotional, a contemporary sound that refuses to bow to the whims of fashion, and he has a warm, embracing stage presence. This promises to be a very special night indeed.
