Event information

This tour led by Paul Talling, author of Derelict London, London's Lost Rivers & London's Lost Live Music Venues takes you around Hammersmith, Fulham & Shepherds Bush looking at numerous lost music venues and gives readings from his next book. We also visit various TV locations for The Sweeney & Dennis Waterman era Minder and touching on the 3 lost rivers of the area (Parr's Ditch, Counters Creek and the Stamford Brook).

Just a few of the places covered include the sites of the opening & closing credits for Minder, one of Arthur's lockups, Terry Mcann's flat, the former HQ of Euston films, opening credits of The Sweeney, the site of the pub where the cast enjoyed pre/post filming drinks plus bits and pieces including Rik Mayall's memorial Bench from Bottom & the cemetery used for Grandad's funeral in Only Fools and Horses. Plus of course loads of other points of interest from Margot Fonteyn to Aleister Crowley to The Professionals to  Joseph Bazalgette.

We pass Opera on the Green where Paul put on an early Manic Street Preachers gig and other lost music venues including The Greyhound, The Bottom Line, Hammersmith Palais, the Clarendon/Klubfoot & the Red Cow.

This No Sleep 'til Hammersmith walking tour is named after the number 1 live album by Motörhead who played many times at the Hammersmith Odeon which is still going strong as the Eventim Apollo.

The tour ends by the River Thames where we will most likely visit a few of the local pubs, including the Blue Anchor which is shown in the closing credits of Minder. This is a 10-min walk from Hammersmith tube station.

The duration of this event is approx 5 hours.

TIP: Arrive early and enjoy a decent fry up at Shandeez, 2 Maclise Rd,W14 0PR. It has a great little walled garden to the rear
