Event information
We’re delighted that the brilliant Mama’s Broke return to these shores next Spring with their dark, fiery folk-without-borders sound.
With their close harmony duets, commanding vocals, and poignant contemplations on cycles of life, they combine tinges of Americana with the ghosts of Eastern European fiddle tunes and ancient a cappella ballad singing, melding into an unusually accessible dark-folk sound on fiddle, banjo, mandolin and guitar.
For a group defined by constant touring, it’s not surprising that Lisa Maria and Amy Lou Keeler met on the road. Both coming out of travelling communities that are focused on music and protest, the two owe the way in which they move through the world to the integrated and self-sustaining nature of DIY culture and activism.
“Multi-instrumentalists Amy Lou and Lisa Maria are masterful songwriters who sing their lyrics as incantations– twin prophets who bend our ear effortlessly and beckon us ever forward.” Kaia Kater
“… a contemporary offering that’s as dark as December.” Penguin Eggs
