Event Information
Dmitri Alexeev entered the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory at the age of six. After graduating he studied with Dmitri Bashkirov and thereafter won prizes in several major competitions including first prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition, the first such achievement by a Russian artist. Since then he has enjoyed a top-level international career and has appeared as a recitalist and as a soloist with the major orchestras throughout Europe, Japan, Australasia, the Far East and the United States.
His recent and forthcoming engagements include the London Symphony Orchestra with Pappano, the St. Petersberg Philharmonic Orchestra with Temerkanov on tour including Carnegie Hall, and again more recently at the opening of the new Sage Concert Hall in Gateshead. In August 2004 he gave the world premiere of Penderecki's Piano Concerto in Bejing. The conductors he has worked with include Ashkenazy, Boulez, Bychkov, Dorati, Gergiev, Giulini, Jansons, Muti, Rozhdestvensky, Salonen, Tilson Thomas and the late Klaus Tennstedt.
Dmitri's extensive repertoire includes the German romantic as well as all the favourite Russian concerti including Scriabin, Stravinsky for Piano and Winds, and Schnittke. His distinguished discography includes piano works by Brahms, Chopin and Rachmaninov and concertos by Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Grieg and Schumann.
Dmitri Alexeev will play:
Rachmaninov – Sonata No.1 in D minor, Op.28
Chopin—3 Nocturnes:
Op.48 No.2 in F# minor; Op.62 No.2 in E; Op.27 No.1 in C# minor
Chopin—Impromptu No.3 in Gb Op.51
Chopin—3 Nouvelle Etudes
Chopin—5 Polish Songs (arranged by Liszt)
Our piano - a fine 2015 Hamburg Steinway Model B Grand - is maintained by Steinways and tuned by them immediately before each recital.
After the concert we offer a buffet tea of freshly-made sandwiches with savouries, cakes and chocolate biscuits, accompanied by a choice of a glass of wine or unlimited tea, coffee or juice. The artist usually attends the tea and you can meet them. Tea tickets are sold on the door for cash or cheque: £10 (standard) and £5 (students). We can cater for up to 70.
