Event information
The three international soloists who formed the Rosamunde Trio have been performing together since 2002, and during this 22-year period the Trio has established a reputation as one of the great Piano Trios in front of the public today. It has performed in festivals and major venues in most European countries and the USA with exceptional critical acclaim. “One of the finest ….. A thing to cherish” Music & Vision.
The Rosamunde Trio has toured extensively in the UK on more than 30 occasions with many major concerts at Wigmore Hall and Kings Place in London. In 2012 and 2013 the Trio celebrated its 10th anniversary with cycles of the complete Piano Trios of Beethoven, including one at Kings Place. Following the enormous success of these concerts, the London Chamber Music Society invited the Trio to do an even bigger series, again at London’s Kings Place, devoted to all the Mozart Trios and the great works of the ‘French School’, a project which continued well into 2017.
Two works have been written especially for them and more new compositions are on the way. Particularly successful is Peter Fribbins’ atmospheric ‘Softly, in the dusk…’, which the Rosamunde recorded for the Guild label.
The Trio’s recordings include the Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich Trios, as well as Dvorak’s Trios, all recorded in Prague at the Liechtenstein Palace.
The idea of forming a Trio was first voiced from the early days of Martino Tirimo’s long and fruitful friendship with Daniel Veis. The two artists undertook many tours, exploring the piano and cello repertoire and have recorded together Mendelssohn’s complete works for Supraphon, but it was not until 2001 that the ‘right’ violinist was found.
Martino, Daniel and Ben Sayevich first met in London in 2002 and it became abundantly evident from the start that they had much in common, especially in musical ideas and values. It was also clear that all the seeds and capabilities for a top ensemble were there. After substantial preparation periods the Rosamunde Trio’s first concerts took place in England in the same year and audience and critical reaction was unanimous: here was a Trio that was totally committed to serving the music and able to offer imaginative and exciting performances that would remain long in the memory. Its three members may be international soloists, but they play as if of one mind.
As child prodigy, Martino Tirimo was conducting operas and then went on to win international piano competitions in Munich and Geneva which led to an international career that few pianists have equalled. He has performed with most major orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic, Dresden Staatskapelle, Leipzig Gewandhaus, London Symphony, Philharmonia, Cleveland Orchestra and numerous others under the baton of Barbirolli, Boult, Masur, Rattle, Kurt Sanderling and many other top conductors. Critics have described him as “An inspiring poet of the piano…a pianist of vision”, Daily Telegraph, “A formidable virtuoso and one with unmistakable magnetism”, The Guardian, “A pianistic parallel to Otto Klemperer”, Gramophone. Tours have taken him to most European countries, North America and the Far East.
His numerous recordings for EMI, Warner Classics, Supraphon and other labels include the complete piano works of Mozart, Beethoven, Debussy and Janacek, all 21 Sonatas of Schubert and Concertos by Mozart, Chopin, Brahms, Rachmaninov and Tippett (with Tippett conducting). His recent set of “Beethoven: Complete Piano Works” was hailed as “the greatest recorded achievement of the 250th anniversary”, The Spectator, and as “an overwhelming lyric journey which crowns a unique complete set”, Artamag (France). He has given numerous series devoted to the complete works of Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and Debussy, the major works of Schubert and Schumann as well as Concerto cycles of Mozart and Beethoven. His urtext edition of Schubert’s 21 Sonatas is regarded as the most authentic. He is also in great demand for masterclasses worldwide, and 12 of his students won first prizes at international competitions.
Ben Sayevich has concertized extensively in North America, Europe and the Far East. At the celebrations of Alban Berg’s centenary Louis Krasner, the dedicatee of the violin concerto, chose Ben to perform the work in Boston. Ben is now on the faculty of the International Center for Music at Park University in Kansas City Missouri, since 2006, and is one of the most sought-after violin teachers in the US. Previous positions were at the University of Kansas, Hartt School of Music in Hartford, Connecticut, and the New England Conservatory in Boston. He has performed in the USA and many European countries as soloist, chamber music player, as well as serving as concertmaster of both the Heidelberg Chamber Orchestra in France and Germany and the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra.
Daniel Veis won the Silver Medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and first prize at the Prague Spring International Competition. He has regularly performed with major orchestras under conductors such as Neumann, Mackerras, Belohlavek and Gergiev in Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Wigmore Hall, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Smetana Hall, Dvorak Hall and numerous others.
As chamber music player, prior to the Rosamunde Trio, he was for 15 years a member of the Dvorak Trio. At the Academy of performing Arts in Prague he has been a Professor, Head of Strings and then Vice-Dean. Since 2010 he leads the Cello Studio at the International Center of Music at Park University in Kansas. He also gives masterclasses in the USA, Europe and the Far East and has frequently served on juries of major international competitions.
The Rosamunde Trio has also become known for its international masterclasses and all three musicians particularly enjoy working with young ensembles at the beginning of their careers.
They will play:
