Afternoon dance workshops with Kerry Fletcher
Kerry is a popular folk dance teacher at clubs and festivals and with community projects across the country. She runs her own classes and is a regular tutor at the English Folk Dance and Song Society, Sidmouth Folk Festival and Halsway Manor.
You don’t need to bring a partner, just some enthusiasm! and be prepared to dance with a variety of people. Suitable for mixed level including beginners. Smooth soled shoes are best.
13:00-15:00 Polska workshop
An introduction to this wonderful turning partner dance! We’ll learn the freestyle Southern släng polska and the classic Darlana turning polska.
15:30-17:30 Breton dance workshop
We’ll learn the basic steps, and more, for the gorgeous Gavotte! Starting in a chain of dancers, we’ll build up to more fancy footwork, with dances from specific towns, such as Gavotte de L’Aven, at its traditional faster tempo, Kost ar c'Hoat, Suite de Loudeac and Plin!
13:00-15:00 Accordion workshop with Anna Pack
Exploring the use of rhythms and chords on the accordion to accompany dance tunes. Aimed at DG diatonic accordions but any free reed instrument is welcome.
15:30-17:30 Ensemble workshop with Anna Pack and Frances Watt
A chance to experiment with harmonisation and arrangement tips and techniques for playing with other instruments in groups and sessions. All instruments welcome!
17:30-19:30 Music session and supper/food to share
Bring your instruments and join in our Euro music session (free with workshop/bal ticket). Please bring along some food to share.
20:00-23:00 Evening Bal with Oscina
Weaving tantalising tunes and spellbinding songs to create mesmerising dance music to lose yourself in, Oscina brings together three accomplished musicians to create their unique and captivating sound… Anna Pack (diatonic accordions), Frances Watt (voice, flutes) and Chris Walshaw (sax, pipes, whistles).
Sunday session 11:00-16:00
Join us on Sunday for an afternoon music and dance session at the village hall.
Tea and coffee available and a licensed bar. There is parking at the village hall and extra parking at the Scout Hut on Main Road after 5pm on Saturday.
