Event Information
Crazy Man Michael are set to release their debut CD at a launch event on Saturday 12 October (7.30pm) at The Backroom in Cottingham. With special guests Edwina Hayes and The Cox Brothers this promises to be great evening of acoustic music. Crazy Man Michael is a duo featuring East Riding singer songwriters Emily River Thomson and Martin Peirson who have joined forces to produce a unique collection of self-written songs. Both performers have dipped into their archives for material that don’t quite work with other bands or line-ups that they are part of, or their own solo repertoires. The goal is to find mystical themes and thought-provoking imagery on songs that you can still tap your feet to!
Using mandolin, ukulele and acoustic/electric guitars, their harmonies enhance some great songs.
On the strength of a solo CD release, Emily was invited to sing backing vocals on Martin’s EP ‘The Larun Beat’, and afterwards, mainly to keep in touch, the pair began some ‘tea, cake and jam sessions’ which led to this unusual pairing. The five track CD was recorded at The Corner studio in Hull and includes one co-written song with the others arranged specifically to suit the duo’s style. Martin added “For some live performances we include some well-known songs to enhance the set, but our heart is in our own material really- songs about the moon, fairies, the elements and meeting people at crossroads -that sort of thing. It sounds a bit dark but we have a laugh doing it. The CD cover artwork is by local artist Gary Pullen and perfectly captures what we are all about.” The CD ‘Songs of Mystery and Imagination will be available to buy on the night (£5) prior to its upload to digital platforms.
