Event information
"Of the many sources I consulted, I am particularly indebted to Paul Talling's Derelict London." Neil Cross (author of Luther, the crime drama)
A guided walking tour in and around Wapping, taking in the history & sites of the old London Docks with readings from both of Paul's books (Derelict London & London's Lost Rivers) and much more. Exploring the now sealed entrances to the old dock basins, decaying remains of docks in unlikely places, bascule bridges, the one time retail centre that is Tobacco Dock and an old water pumping station & tales of smugglers, pirates & murders.
Other interesting points along the route include Execution Dock used by the Admiralty for over 400 years to hang pirates the scene of a Dr Who episode, the church where scenes from the Long Good Friday was filmed and where Sunhill Police Station (The Bill) was originally situated. All this and passing by a few derelict sites too....
The tour lasts approx 3 1/2 hours. Afterwards, join Paul for a drink in a Wapping pub overlooking the Thames with some of the best riverside views in London.
Dogs are welcome on all tours
