Phil ‘Swill’ Odgers is well known as singer and acoustic guitarist with award-winning UK folk rockers
The Men They Couldn’t Hang. He is also a formidable, well-loved and prolific solo artist in his own
right. Born in Scotland to an Irish Mother and a Yorkshire Father and re-routed to the south of
England as a kid, his writing style tells life stories with a conscience and a heart.
Audiences around the world from Cairo to Reykjavik, Brisbane to Tokyo, Toronto to Turin, have
submitted to his effervescent and heartfelt vocal style in stadium, theatre, hall and after-hours lock
in.
The Men They Couldn’t Hang are currently on their 40 th anniversary tour with Swill’s vocals going
from strength to strength.
He has appeared (with The Men They Couldn't Hang) as special guest to Van Morrison, Elvis Costello,
Billy Bragg and David Bowie.
Guests on Phil’s solo albums include Eliza Carthy, John Jones (Oysterband), Sid Griffin, Mick Thomas,
Bobby Valentino.
Earlier this year he released the highly praised folk hit album ‘Far Rockaway: the songs of Phil Ochs’
with John Kettle (Merry Hell).
His most recent solo album GHOSTS OF ROCK N ROLL went straight to #3 in the official UK Folk
Charts and #1 in the Amazon Folk Rock Chart.
The press liked it too:
 Ronin Denselow: “What a great collection of songs! I’ve been playing this A LOT”
 FolkRadioUK: “A wonderful album - contender for record of the year”
 RnR Magazine: 5/5 “Each song seems wrought by a master craftsman”
 FATEA: “Exceeds even the highest expectations”
 Vive Le Rock: 9/10 “A true musical triumph!”
 Maverick: 8/10 “A diverse range of topics set to a tight, alt-country production”
 Folking.Com: “Simply amazing! His best solo album yet”
 Morning Star: “Packed with great songs - a brilliant album”
Every solo show Phil has played in the last 3 years has sold out in advance – some within 48 hours of
being announced and for this one he’s joined by legendary fiddle player Bobby Valentino so be sure
to get your ticket ASAP.
