We're delighted to welcome Sanjana to Real Magic Books for the latest in our special series of food writing events at the shop.
Sanjana Feasts is a collection of eighty original vegetarian and vegan recipes, where you’ll discover a kaleidoscope of fresh takes on regional Indian favourites and recipes from the diaspora to feed your soul.
Sanjana Modha is an extraordinary talent, a rising star in modern Indian cuisine. Inspired by her Indian heritage, East African family background, and Yorkshire roots, Sanjana’s approach to food is gloriously authentic – fusing flavours and influences to represent who she is and what she loves to eat.
With signature dishes such as ruffled biryani, pasta daal, and Indian-inspired Rocky Road, Sanjana is paving a new direction for Indian cuisine.
Consider that Gulab Jamun, the most iconic of desserts, traditionally refers to spongy caramelised milk balls bobbing in syrup – but swap the syrup bath for a glossy sticky toffee sauce pour-over and you have a collision of heritage flavours, reminiscent of the traditional great British school dinner pudding.
From bourbon biscuit laddoos to deep-dish desi pizza, all washed down with different versions of chai, Sanjana Feasts is a series of dazzling snapshots of modern Indian diaspora food.
Each recipe in her debut cookbook is presented in an unapologetically simple way, with helpful step-by-step photographs for technique-led recipes like how to create layers for the flakiest paratha of your life.
Sanjana will be in conversation, the bar will be open and we'll be chatting about the recipes in her book and the experiences that have led to its creation.
