Event information

Henry Wagons has a unique knack for seizing your attention in a way that can only come from years of performing on hundreds of stages around the world as one of Australia’s most gifted musicians, performers and radio/TV hosts. Often described as a “professor of song” and instigator of the Australian movement of Indie-Country music, Henry is a master craftsmen of the stage, and carves out his place upon it like no-other.

Henry’s fierce intellect was once hurtling toward a career as a philosopher, but was derailed by a record deal and an insatiable need to make noise. There is no songwriter who casts the same kind of ever-curious, startlingly present shadow during a performance.

Henry’s talents earned him the honour of being named in The Age Melbourne Magazine’s ‘Top 100 Most Influential Melbournians’. Henry’s reach spans across many festival stages and venues as well as being the sonorous voice behind the iconic national radio program “Tower of Song”, which is nearing a decade on air.

Henry has released three solo albums, and seven records with his band Wagons, many of which have been critically acclaimed and awarded, regularly and over a sustained period, across twenty five years in music.

Henry soaks up inspiration from spectres of the past in Hazelwood and Elvis, also the many comrades with whom he has shared the stage with, such as Lucinda Williams and Justin Townes Earle, all intertwined by a passion for classic song-craft. Henry has roamed the globe having appeared at festivals such as Bonnaroo, Bluesfest, Laneway, Bumbershoot, Big Day Out, Ottawa Blues, SXSW and Americana.

All in all, Mr. Wagons is a vibrant creative dynamo that is truly reaching the full extent of his powers and with many a grand scale project set to unfold in the near future… doubtless, he is a force you need to see.

“A shrewd showman and an equally savvy songwriter and singer… Wagons makes sly rock ‘n’ roll that both intellectuals and pop fans can appreciate” (Nashville Cream).

“Henry Wagons comes across like Nick Cave singing the Johnny Cash songbook” (Timeout NYC).

“Henry Wagons: the new Prince of Country noir” (CBC).
