As summer draws to a close, join us for a season finale that celebrates bold voices and boundary-pushing brilliance! From Romantic drama to virtuosic flair and modern orchestral mastery, this programme highlights composers who redefined their eras and left a lasting mark on musical history.
We open with Carl Maria von Weber’s Der Freischütz Overture, a dramatic and colourful ride through the world of German Romantic opera. With its eerie forest scenes, explosive energy, and soaring love themes, it’s a thrilling overture that grabs you from the first note and doesn’t let go. It’s storytelling through music at its most vivid and imaginative.
Up next, our brilliant solo pianist Huang takes centre stage for Clara Schumann’s remarkable Piano Concerto, composed when she was just 14. Brimming with lyrical beauty, emotional depth, and youthful fire, the concerto showcases Clara’s extraordinary talent and distinct musical voice — a rare and radiant gem of the Romantic era.
We close the evening — and the season! — with Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra, an absolute tour de force that turns the orchestra into a cast of virtuosos. Bursting with rhythm, colour, and wit, it’s a piece that dances, dazzles, and moves with unstoppable momentum. From playful solos to powerful climaxes, it’s the perfect exclamation point to a season of unforgettable music!
