Event information
Hark! Deck your halls, hide your children, put out a plate of carrots - quick! Who’s that coming down the chimney? Oh sweet Christmas. That’s right, it’s Po-ho-hoetry, with Exeter’s Spork! Poetry. Featuring the herald angels themselves Edward Tripp & Chris White. Here to stuff your ear-stockings full of spoken-word silliness, poetry, comedy, and Christmassy cheer.
Join us at Word Kitchen for a not-so-silent night of unforgettable and potentially regrettable festive themed “poems,” with 2 of Devon’s silliest wordsmithS. Plus a slot from our special guest - Mimi! Mimi is a stand-up comic, host of comedy night Beasts of Bodmin, the queen of silly songs and ukulele strumming, and was the Cornish Comedian of the Year in 2022 ( and is still in shock about it.)
There'll also be a Christmassy limerick competition, and plenty of other surprises.
Food and drink will be available to buy on the night from Brook Kitchen's delicious menu. The show will be in two halves with an interval in the middle so that people can eat and enjoy their drinks during the interval.
Edward Tripp is an award-winning stand-up poet, with a penchant for all things dark and surreal. A frequent performer on comedy and poetry stages alike, he’s taken his work around the UK from A Press of Suspects to Milk Poetry, to WOMAD Festival, and Just the Tonic at the Edinburgh Fringe. Whether screaming about spatulas or soliloquising about Uncle Connor “who isn’t in the IRA,” Ed’s an always hilarious, prop-heavy and provocative performer.
"A roaring fire of absurd wit"
- Corr Blimey
Chris White is a performer, poet and the soggiest bottom in all Exeter. The founder of Spork! Poetry, he’s a slam winning poet who frequently performs his work at nights and festivals from Shambala to Tongue Fu. He was the first Riddler in Residence at Exeter Cathedral, has performed on buses and boats, and likes writing silly words about queerness, identity and ducks.
“a knack for humour that can make you sigh in embarrassment, while also crying with laughter.”
