An evening of two halves featuring two wonderful women:
Frankie Cleeve first picked up a violin when her daughter started to learn and has been playing ever since, despite her family’s desperate attempts to stop her. She mainly plays English dance music (with anyone who will allow her to play with them) and writes a few tunes of her own as well. Frankie was organiser of this club for some years and is a resident at they Cellar Upstairs. She will be joined by Phil Seaman on the Melodian – a long time collaborator and seasoned Morris musician.
Maddie Morris is an artist who strives to make a difference in the world. Bold, insightful and refreshingly unique, they take traditional song in new directions to shine a light on contemporary issues, offering new perspectives about the world we live in today.
After graduating with a first-class honours degree from Leeds Conservatoire, Maddie soon made waves by winning the 2019 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, as well as landing a grant from the Alan Surtees Trust. From these firm foundations, their career has gone from strength to strength, with recent performances including Cropredy and Cambridge Folk Festival.
