Event information
“YellaBellies is a four piece up-tempo band blending a wide range of influences, from southern rock through bluegrass and cajun to alt-country and the fringes of psychadelic rock via the Grateful Dead. Expect some well-crafted original songs, Nick Cave, Split Lip Rayfield and Johnny Cash covers along with the likes of Wilco, The Velvet Underground and Screaming Jay Hawkins.
The line up features Tony Plato and Paul Bateman on Drums and Bass/vox the rhythm section of many classic indie bands including The Waxroom, Jackdaw music and the Garbage Grinders, along with Russell Frampton [ Vox guitar ] and Paul Wilson with roots in the alt folk scene through the Joyce Gang, The Venoms and Shaking ground. Russell was also a front man for the Bluegrass Flyers, for many years playing guitar, fiddle and mandolin. Plymouthian Paul Wilson is a great melodeon player, equally at home with Shetland/irish, Cajun and free form improvisation….!
Each member of the band has toured nationally and has many years of gigging experience and these sets are culled from deep connections with Americana and folk, rock and blues and the common ground between these styles provides a rich territory to explore. Expect a fun-packed evening of danceable numbers and virtuoso instrumentals.”
