Marry Me Emelie's debut EP ‘the distance makes the mountains blue’ is an entirely bedroom-produced project, named after the Icelandic expression ‘distance makes mountains seem more blue and men seem more mighty’.
It is about the journey of deliberation, parting and choosing to come back home and the bittersweetness of that decision. It is about a woman’s desire for freedom and the longing for the wild west.
Marry Me Emelie draw their inspiration from the likes of Angel Olsen, Nancy Sinatra, Lucinda Williams and Stevie Nicks. With raunchy guitar licks, dark velvet vocals, sensory soundscapes and heartbroken lyricism, their timeless sound has been defined as alt-americana.
Walthamstow Trades Hall holds huge meaning for the band, in that the EP was written between visits, using the energy of expression and freedom found in the people and on the dancefloor as a cornerstone of inspiration. The music video for their single 'When I Come To', is an ode to their relationship with the Trades Hall, featuring members of the community.
Walthamstow Trades Hall are proud to be part of Marry Me Emelie’s journey, and welcome them to perform at the club for the first time.
Support comes from:
Adam Gardner Adam Gardner
London-based songwriter Adam Gardner blends a diverse range of influences to produce warm, intimate chamber folk with pop sensibility.
His latest album ‘Postcard Ephemera’ draws inspiration from postcards, letters and notes found in charity and thrift stores. Adam reimagines the stories locked in time within that correspondence and other ephemera.
Chloe Foy
Chloe Foy has always found magic in the spaces between light and dark. Growing up surrounded by the quiet of the English countryside, it was through music that she first learned how to express the nuance of emotion. Her songs are a reflection of that stillness, woven with threads of vulnerability and longing.
