Event information
After the launch of their critically acclaimed second album Reflection, released by Caliban Sounds in association with One Little Independent Records, The Casimir Connection makes a rare live performance in the atmospheric setting of the Longshore Room in Deptford.
An evening with The Casimir Connection is one never to forget; beautiful, expressive music with exciting creative improvisation. Cinematic and melodic, the music creates moments of magic and emotional release. Each piece tells a story or captures a mood or feeling.
Lead by composer and saxophonist Diane McLoughlin, The Casimir Connection explores the boundaries between classical and contemporary jazz. Featuring Diane McLoughlin on saxophones, Alcyona Mick on piano, Kit Massey on violin and Tim Fairhall on double bass, the music brings together elements of classical chamber composition and intense, sparkling improvisation. This mix contributes to the thoughtful and cinematic narrative of the compositions, creating intimacy and intensity, allowing space to explore sound and silence.
“there’s serenity and optimism..all delivered with virtuosic commitment" (Jazzwise)
"brooding, folkloric pieces" (Mojo)
"an impressive album that warrants repeated listening" (Jazz Journal)
"a fine album from an ensemble that is truly bringing a new perspective on classical chamber composition and contemporary jazz and does so with a genuine sense of adventure" (Jazz Views)
The venue is a hidden gem, based in historic building that used to be a naval rum warehouse in the old Royal Naval Dockyard. The building overlooks the Thames and has an impressive view of Canary Wharf.
The Longshore Room, with its vaulted ceilings, is an interesting and atmospheric performance space.
