Event information
In the 17th century, reading was a gendered and contentious activity. In choosing their reading material, women were engaging with (and perhaps subverting) gender norms. This allows us to gain valuable insights into their sense of their own identity and how they wanted to represent themselves to the world. Hannah's book on this issue, Reading, Gender and Identity in Seventeenth-Century England, will be coming out later in 2025. Now is your chance to hear her thinking ahead of its publication.
Hannah Jeans is a Lecturer in early modern British History at the University of York.
The event is on the first floor. There is a lift to enable access to the venue.
