Event information
Ma Rainey, the mother of the blues, was a trailblazer in so many ways. She was known for her deep-throated voice and mesmerising stage presence that drew packed audiences and sold hit records in the early 20th Century.
Led by the renowned RICHARD EXALL on tenor saxophone and clarinet, along with the exceptional Musical Director DOM BARNETT on piano, our talented musicians have meticulously arranged the music to capture the true essence of the 1920s and '30s. The well-established rhythm section, comprising SAM KELLY on drums and MARIANNE WINDHAM set the foundation for a captivating and immersive musical experience. Complementing the ensemble is CHRISSIE MYLES whose powerful and enchanting vocals will transport you to the jazz clubs of yesteryears.
